Amy grew up very near Roosevelt Park - so attending many PIP shows as a child naturally led to performing in them - in the kids' ensembles in the 70's and later on as Hodel in FIDDLER, as 7 different characters in ANNIE, and yukking it up in PIRATES and EVITA during the summers between college years - while earning a BFA in Musical Theater from Syracuse University.
Her theater career spanned from a European tour of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR (with PIP alum Gerard Lebeda) to regional, touring and educational theater as well as commercials and jingles in the Northeastern US.
Eventually Amy chose to pursue music, attending Boston's Berklee College of Music on full scholarship as a pop/jazz composer and vocalist. While at Berklee, she also dabbled in playwriting; her collaborative work, THE DOG AND PONY SHOW was produced in Boston and Chicago.
Since 1998, she has been known as Amy "Bob" Engelhardt, the sole female voice of the Grammy-nominated vocal group The Bobs (www.bobs.com), a four person "band without instruments." (Current album: COASTER) The group, which has a huge cult following, has been described as a cross between Manhattan Transfer, They Might Be Giants and Monty Python. She writes and arranges for the group, which performs at venues ranging from Lincoln Center and Wolf Trap to The Bottom Line and Seattle's Jazz Alley, and vocal and jazz festivals throughout the US and in Europe.
Also a composer, lyricist and vocalist for films and theater, Amy currently lives in Los Angeles. Recent projects include music and lyrics for GUY PLANET (short film), THE ROAD TO URANUS (with the Flying Karamazov Brothers), THAT SINKING FEELING (Free Associates, Chicago) and THE EGG GAME (Present Company, NYC), as well as voiceover work for Fox Digital Video's ALIENS! COLONIAL MARINES series, due out this fall. |
