AAside from producing and directing at Plays-in-the-Park, one of my theatrical passions is set design. The opportunity to design a set that compliments and enhances the director's vision is a challenge I welcome. I am particularly intrigued by the realistic details that can be incorporated into the design, especially in a drama or comedy, and in seamless set changes for musicals. My work has been showcased at Plays-in-the-Park, where I have often collaborated with the great Vern Smith; The Forum Theater in Metuchen; The Chatham Playhouse; the Bickford Theater at the Morris Museum in Morristown; and at Cranford High School where I have designed and directed for over 15 years.
The photos on this site are from the models I created for the technical directors to work from, and stills of the actual production. Some CAD elevations are included as well. My favorites to date have been the designs for both JEKYLL & HYDE and CABARET at PIP, simply because I felt I solved the problems inherent in the set changes of the script, and in the details of all the environments. Both shows had a unit set, and involved the use of wagons and smaller set pieces. The turntable, or revolve, in Jekyll & Hyde was especially useful and effective.
In 2005 I have designed or am working on ROAR OF THE GREASEPAINT at the Bickford, and MISS SAIGON and DREAMGIRLS at Plays-in-the-Park. |
