Plays-in-the-Park has opportunities for theatrically-inclined volunteers in several capacities. There are positions on our "day shift" and positions for the "night shift". During the day, we would be interested in volunteers to help in the following areas: painting the sets, building the props, sewing the costumes, helping with the lighting. There is no set schedule - just show up any week day in the morning and we'll find something for you to do.
On the other hand, our openings for the Night Shift are a commitment for 20 nights. If you sign up in one of the following positions you must agree to attend all the tech rehearsals and all the performances. We need volunteers to: work follow spots, run props, work shift crew and as dressers. If you are interested and can make the time commitment, send Michelle Massa an e-mail or call her, as she organizes the volunteers.
The PDF calendar below explains the specific commitments for the Night Shift volunteers that was needed for summer 2008. Follow spot operators must be at least 18 years of age. The shift crew are those volunteers who work behind the scenes moving the large set pieces, pulling curtains and arranging everything backstage. Prop people gather and set the props before and after each show, as well as helping actors work with the props, and dressers help the performers in and out of the their costumes and even wigs during quick costume changes.
INTERN PROGRAM INFORMATION
We also sponsor an intern program for college credit. In the past we have worked successfully with Kean University, Middlesex County College, Rutgers University and Montclair University. We do not pay any stipends - you work for college credits. You can choose to either support our day staffs or work a show or two at night. For more details, e-mail Gary Cohen or call the theater; but first, talk to your professors and make sure they would be amenable to having you work for credit.
